'Darling, I just killed your mother and father. Would you care for some tea?' by Kara
One of the things I love about House is that they make you think they're gonna do something that'll fsck up (in the hardcore fan's mind) the rest of the show. I don't fall for them ... maybe I'm just a cynic like that. Another popular show I was watching recently, for example ...
Character: Yes! I've figured out the answer to this problem I've been dealing with all season! It's so simple! This will tie up so many of the plot points in this show!!!
Me: Boned.
Character: *is boned*
Something I don't like about House, though, is how they advertise new episodes. As I've said of another show before, I don't need help liking this show. Especially badly-realised Next Episode trailers. It's invariably the same every time:
Announcer: House returns in nine years with one all-new episode in a ROW!!! New medical mysteries ...
Visual: [shot of small child having seizure in MRI, followed by shot of an attractive-but-coked-out twentysomething getting the paddles in the ER, followed by a shot of Chase trying to stanch a fountain of blood erupting from a lady's eyeball]
Announcer: ... new sexual tension ...
Visual: [shot of what may or may not be Cameron or Cuddy having violent sex with someone who may or may not be House, Chase, or someone from Cuddy's Jewish dating service]
Announcer: ... and a case so shocking ...
Visual: [shot of House sitting on the men's room floor looking generally bewildered and strung out]
Announcer: ... it challenges even House.
Foreman: You can't remove the entire upper half of this guy's body and expect him to live!
House: I know ... but I'm gonna give away the best line of the episode anyway!
Visual: [over-rendered Fox logo]
Is it just me, or are House's cases getting exponentially more shocking, disturbing, and challenging? Especially if every week it's his toughest case yet.
Fox, I reiterate: I don't need help liking this show. Just show us thirty seconds of Hugh Laurie being a good actor.
If you have been, what else is new?

So we got more House last night. Guest-starring Dave Matthews. Not one of my favourite musicians, but I have immense respect for good pianists. A lot of popular musicians today don't bother to learn classical and/or jazz technique. Plus, I never thought I'd see Hugh Laurie and Dave Matthews play a duet.
