'See? I've told you a million times, we need a porn trigger!' by Kara
'Well, given the arguments from both sides, I feel that- Hey, there's a twenty in my pocket! I didn't know that was there! Woohoo, I'm gonna go spend it!!!'
That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.
Now, despite what I've been saying, I did watch the Oscars last night. For one thing, it's my job at work today to keep watching the news feeds, and I figured I'd have an easier time if I just saw for myself what happened. Two, I like background noise. Three, wanted to see how well I could predict Hollywood politics (fairly well). Four, morbid curiosity.
So now, it's time for my requisite statement on 'It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp' winning Best Song:
Okay, this really, really bugged me. A lot. Not because it's rap - I don't hate rap as a genre, I just find it very hard to find anything in the genre that I like. Not because of the lyrics - honestly, whatever. Not because of the people - I know nothing about them, and what little I saw seemed okay enough. Not because of the staging - granted, I wasn't keen on it, but it was better than children crawling through fire, and they do lose points for the Happy Seizure Lights.
I'm bugged because the song really sucks.
Seriously. It just plain sucks. And if that weren't enough, the girl they got to sing it clearly isn't up there for her voice. That high note at the end made me cry, and not the way the high note in Aida makes me cry. I wasn't keen on any of the songs this year - and quite honestly, I wasn't surprised it won. Just disappointed. If you're gonna do a 'controversial' bit (which I didn't think it was ... my 'controversial' threshold is pretty high), at least make sure it doesn't suck.
Now, on Wallace & Gromit ... cracking good. Those boys needed this (yeah, they got stuff for their shorts, but they needed this one). Also, I knew they'd be fun up onstage. Miyazaki got something, Burton's gotten stuff, and I liked all three animation nominees this year, so there was really very little chance of my being disappointed, no matter who won.
And finally ... I said it on Blacklight, but I say it here again now: mammas, don't let your babies grow up to be Pisces.
If you have been, quit picking on me.

Before anything else - it seems I just couldn't avoid being hit with the T Campbell/Scott Kurtz websnark, seeing as I know and work with one of the parties involved. So here, ladies and gentlemen, is Kara Dennison's Official Statement on the Whole Thing:
