'Remove the kender from the busy wizard!' by Kara
Now then.
On Thursday, I showed the Weird Uncle some Bubblegum Crisis, and I think he finally understands anime fandom outside of Narutards and other fair-weather (hey, cool, I forgot I'd put 'Narutards' in my Firefox dictionary) fans. It helps that he likes Blade Runner and Terminator, but I think the intense difference between this and anything they're gonna show on TV -- animation-wise, plot-wise, and the fact that the people just seem to care more -- kinda made it click.
To him. My uncle is a very sensible gentleman, and he can spot a labour of love when he sees one.
Now if I could just silence the 'You only like old things, you never give new things a chance' naysayers. Incorrect. I just know the trends in both old and new anime, what affects the quality of both, and the fact that due to the state of the industry, a good plot and interesting characters used to be a necessity rather than a pleasant surprise. (When you don't have the money or workers to make 20 series a year, you sorta have to be careful of what you put out there. The fact that Hayate no Gotoku! and Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei are subversively good while following modern trends superficially in order to even get out there is a sad sign of this.
It's not that I won't watch new anime. It's just it has to work a lot harder to convince me that I should, and that's the industry's own fault.
Yeah. Cranky. Didn't get enough sleep. Speaking of things that are one's own fault.
If you have been, jump!

Koko wa Greenwood is a wonderful show. Metal Fighter Miku has started out as a wonderful (but silly as hell) show.
