I will say that a member of my family encountered her first Emo Kid.
Overused phrase nowadays, I'm afraid, but this was a bit true. To the point of stereotypical. Black streaked hair, big glasses, drawing disturbing things during class ...
Okay. I drew during class. High school and college.
Point being ... honestly, if you're going to draw in any sort of arena where your teacher's going to see you, I wouldn't recommend getting too terribly dark. General rule: if it bleeds profusely, especially from the eyes or wrists, don't risk it.
I get that This Is a Phase™ for a lot of kids. I don't begrudge them that, but please keep it in your LJ or something. Or even in your deviantART where people can go and have a look at it if they feel like it. But in the middle of class?
I'm really hoping it doesn't make me sound like I'm older than I am, or turning into a grown-up, when I say that sitting and drawing that kinda faux-gothy crap in the middle of class -- and don't talk about 'privacy,' you're in school surrounded by people, you've got about as much privacy as you would on a cell phone in a mall -- is more a cry for attention than an actual expression of creativity. Drawing 'edgy' (not really edgy) stuff when surrounded by peers doesn't make you an Artist. It just makes you a good target for a chat with your teacher.
That said, I like Jhonen Vasquez and all. But he's not doing his work in the middle of art class. I don't think.
If you have been, try again.

So I had a rant previously, but I sorta don't wanna risk anything showing up to anyone anywhere.
I couldn't draw back then, either. Now, in high school you shouldn't sit and draw during class because your teacher will see you and take it from you and stick it up on the chalkboard. College? Whatever, we sat there and knitted during Arthurian lit.
