'Who wants a job where the men don't wear bikinis and you can't shoot them?' by Kara
So, I seem to have manifested this weird super power.
As you recall, Co-Writer and I (and many others) went to Otakon to attend a concert by some little band no one's ever heard of*. I hate Otakon. He hates Otakon. I also hate Baltimore, and I'm pretty sure he does, too. I've had a friend or two tell me over the last few years that I should give it another try (until last summer, my last Otakon was 2001).
I informed them, and a few other people, that the only way to get me there would be 'if they got, I dunno, fuckin' JAM Project as a guest.' Not only did I consider myself safe because of the extreme unlikelihood, but I'd also set my standards sufficiently high. And not long after, guess who got announced?
Well, granted, I didn't just go because I felt like I needed to make good on it. I REALLY WANTED TO SEE JAM PROJECT (as you all recall) and I did everything I could to make it possible. And while there were a lot (a lot) of drawbacks getting there and generally surviving the trip, I did and regret nothing.
Now, one of said friends has poked me to get out to Chicago TARDIS (there's a reason I'm not hotlinking this one yet). I don't like Chicago. Again, I've been twice, and I really didn't enjoy myself either time. And as interested as I've been in going, especially to see what rose from the ashes of Visions (which I never got to go to), I haven't had the desire to. Colin Baker and Lis Sladen together nearly got me out there last year. Nearly.
However, I have been saying, and reiterated to someone else last week, that they would never get me out there unless a certain Doctor -- a certain Doctor who swore off American cons and has been a bit busy with movies and TV and things -- were to show up as a guest. Again, not only did I consider myself safe because of the extreme unlikelihood, but I'd also set my standards sufficiently high ... at least in my corner of fandom.
Well, guess who was announced last week.
So behold my newest super power: I have the ability to summon improbable overseas guests to conventions through the power of really really not wanting to go places. Though I'm wondering if my knowledge of said power will cancel it out. If you have been, yeah, I am ...
* Unfortunately, peeks at the Otakon forum a few months before the con have led me to believe this is truer than we think. Sigh.

Last night I finished the Kino's Journey movies. So I'm looking at my pile trying to decide what's next. Do I want something silly, something laid-back, or something that will make me want to break the DVD in half and slit my wrists with it? Suggestions welcome. I've got a little of everything, God knows.
