'Jeffy's got a head like a f-cking orange!' by Kara
So I think I've found the apartment I want. It's about five minutes from work, in a much nicer area (they're relandscaping right now). The stairs to the second-story apartments are inside, there's reserved parking and guest parking ... Oh, should probably mention the insides, shouldn't I?
Well, it's all wood flooring, for a start. I can put down throw rugs where I like. There's a hair of a front entryway, rather than just landing in the living room. Said living room is a fair bit bigger. The kitchen is also bigger, and nicer, with a pantry and plugs for multiple appliances -- all of which will encourage me to cook. There's also a mini-den off the living room where the landlady suggested I put a little dining area, but I think that would make a nice separate place devoted to my miniature zoo. The bathroom is tiled (no, my current one is not). The two bedrooms are a fair size, and I need two bedrooms, because one is my office-slash-sewing-room.
And there's a balcony.
Wah.
And it only costs about $60/mo more than I'd be paying starting the new least here, which I will save in gas as it's a 25-minute drive to work now.
Now, there is a larger two-bedroom available, which naturally costs a bit more but is also more readily available. I will take it if I need to, use the larger den for a sewing room, and the second bedroom as an even more crowded office with a drawing board (I had one at the g'rents' when I was in high school and it's been in storage). My logic? Living closer to home, I will have at least one extra hour in the day (not counting having to go to bed earlier to wake up earlier to make the occasionally clogged commute), making it easier to work on books again and take big commissions. Which will bring in money. I hope.
All this said, this is where I will be before the winter is over.
And my landlady seems to agree.
After all that grief, I came home last night to another flyer rubber-banded to my mailbox. What now? Did they 'lose' my rent cheque again? Did they change their mind on another regulation? No. It was a lease renewal notice.
Now, my lease is up on 31 January every year. I usually am asked to respond by 2 January. This year? 1 December. Two weeks.
Oh yeah, and the original date was whited out.
So I'm informing the new landlady that I will break lease to move in in December if I have to. It's close enough to work that I can move everything but furniture over lunch breaks, then just get the big stuff over and organised one weekend. Hell, before Christmas would be better for everyone, because then I wouldn't have to think about it right after Christmas and before/after MarsCon.
I shall keep everyone posted. But
No, no. No chicken-counting.
If you have been ... eeeheeheehee!
