'Buffalo dollar fishy man?!' by Kara
At the same time I was worried that some fine movies would get passed over for writing/acting awards because of this necessity Hollywood feels to load up movies with awards in areas they don't really excel in. Perhaps that weird and oh-so-Hollywood tendency to go overboard to show they care about something? I wanted Avatar to get the recognition it deserved, I guess. Letting it sweep might have bred a cynicism leading people to believe it didn't deserve any of its Oscars. You know how people are.
I honestly can't tell you if many of the winners deserved their awards or not, because I saw so few of the relevant movies this year. The ones I was familiar with, I think they pegged.
Okay, I'm wrong. I was rooting for Sherlock Holmes in its two categories. It didn't take either, but I'm fine with the ones that did.
And I'm glad Jeff Bridges got to take something shiny home. I like him, and I like that he didn't bother trying to act humble or unworthy. He might also have been hammered, in which case I like him even more.
Overall, an enjoyable evening. Were it not for Ben Stiller done up as a Na'vi ...
If you have been, grargh.

I wasn't really particularly rooting for anything during the Oscars last night, and I can't say I was rooting against Avatar particularly like many people were. We'll just say there was no point rooting for it in any of the visual/tech categories because it was going to win (and rightly so).
