'Why would you give up your UNICORN for a fscking GOPHER!?' by Kara
All right. It's currently everyone's birthday. Seriously. End of February, beginning of March, I know enough fellow Pisces to form a self-loathing support group.
Anyway, when it comes to my own birthday, I tend to do multiple separate dinners with friends and family, because multiple friends and family like to do little multiple separate dinners. This does not bother me at all. I'm horrible at planning parties, and the last one I held was when I was 20 in one of the larger rooms on campus. Big-screen fighting games and a quasi-cake that my friend Kami and I made. It was indeed fun, but that's just not a strong area for me, the planning of anything outside a room party.
So I tend to go to other February birthday parties for my friends and go 'Okay, I'm at a party and having fun and my friends are having fun, that's enough for me.'
My friend Megan decided on a slumber party for her birthday, and I love Megan and I love cake so naturally I was there. (Well, and I love my other friends, too, just saying.) I will admit to various levels of disgruntlement when other friends have gotten elaborate birthday cakes because, meh, I haven't had one. I don't expect people to make me one, it's just sort of an observation. And really a commentary on me because I could make myself one if I weren't so lazy and also fail at making any cake bigger than a cupcake.
So I was surprised when, at Megan's party, not only did she get her own awesome little individual cake (in pink), I got one, too (in blue). Granted, Greg and Leah's daughter Haele kept poking her little fingers in the frosting, but I like her, and also I wouldn't have to deal with her when the sugar caught up with her.
I also got this piece of awesome from my friend Matt, which I wasn't expecting. I've seen his art before (he's done some Kalibourne fanart and tons of other stuff, but I can't link to a site cuz he doesn't have one), so it was triple-awesome getting something like this from him. Megan also got a piece of birthday awesome.
But yeah. It's kinda hard to believe I have friends who'll go out of their way for me like that. So, you know, just major big thank-yous to every single one of 'em. And to Megan for sharing.
Oh, I forgot to mention. The big cake, which was a major surprise for Megan, was a true slumber party duck-a-thon. I really don't know how they do it.
If you have been ... yeah, thanks again, kids.
