'The human thigh is not meant to move independently!' by Kara
I've got a lot of new books to buy, ayup.
I've talked elsewhere about my quest for a Nissan 240SX. I don't really have a lot in my Sileighty fund yet -- only in the hundreds -- but anything that's not necessary for other stuff like food and a place to live and publishing goes in a little locked box. Yeah, I keep a tangible stash, because if I keep it in the bank I will spend it. Although theoretically I could open a second savings account just for that and set it so any overdraft doesn't get pulled from there. In fact, I really think I shall.
On the publishing front! Co-Writer has gone halfsies with me on a Photoshop upgrade, so now I just need to wait 'til the Mighty Publishers come back from Otakon and get me the stuff I need to fix print quality the right way. Then I can get Issue 1 out the door and get back to content on other things. Like Issues 2/3, ConScrew 3/4, Wicket 2, and Kali 1. Ye gods. What is my problem?
If you have been, sing it!
Well 'nuther week, 'nuther dollar. Concerts and ghouls have invaded my life at work. Out of work of course a rather long awaited book came out.
Well of course I went and bought it and read it! I may not have the most books, but I do love books.
Speaking of, I loaned the first 4 movies to my roommate, who had never read the books, now she's hooked, so we went out last night and she picked up the first two. Upon returning I discovered that the other roommate had been reading the series. I tried to start up a discussion with her, but the conversation was just...ugh.
She's not the smartest person out there, no, and I never considered her dumb or stupid or anything, but goodness, she is dense. You know, with the artist we've been talking about literary structure of the book a bit (I have some new thoughts on that I'll tel you about later by the by). I even mention something that focuses on how it's written and she gets all defensive and thinks that I'm saying that JK is a bad writer. (But come on, she's not the best out there either)
Childlike, that's what our discussions are like, childlike. At least I have someone who will discuss more than just the pairings that happen, and how cute it all is, and how wonderful the book is turning out to be (although I did really like the last one...till a certain point)

Whereas I'm discussing the heroic archetypes with my weird uncle. This was the series's strongest point in 1-6, but then it failed in 7. This made me very sad, because it added a really nice strong foundation to the storyline. Once things weren't happening in a way that (I felt) was necessary to the growth and progression of Harry's character as described by Jung and Campbell, I felt like the floor was pulled out from under me.
