'Happy Falker Satherhood!' by Kara
Besides which, the only big event at this point at my life is a lot of coughing. Repeatedly. At all times of day and night. And that's not terribly interesting.
Well, here's something that is.
I'm running karaoke at Anime Mind-Atlantic again this year. I've decided to do sign-ups entirely by e-mail, capping entries at 25, no overflow. Considering this is going to be a judged contest, that's about right for the block we've got. Even though I've 'hired' someone specifically to be the go-to guy/dogsbody/abuser of fools (he asked for the job), I don't wanna have to deal with 15-30 people asking if they'll get to sing. Fortunately, I have the great Commander Havok, with a decade of karaoke-mastering experience, to call upon in my time of need.
So the form went live last night around, eh, 8.30 PM.
As of a few minutes ago, there are 16 spots left.
Jesus Christ.
Yeah, no. This is why we're not doing overflow/at-con signups anymore. I'm still boggled by this. On the bright side, if it fills up early, that's all the more time to make sure things are squared away without handling organising people.
Ah, responsibility. It's so keen. Hopefully a month and a bit from now, I won't have a debilitating cough. I know, I know, it goes away ... but right now I'm to that stage where it seems like it never will.
Balancing work-work, con-work, and comic-work is gonna be insanity this month.
If you have been, do it later.
So game 3 of the best fo 7 series with the Boston Bruins (My team) and the Carolina Hurricanes (their team...whoever THEY are) was last night. I missed it due to the usual wensday night anime at Gregs house.
From the sounds of it I didn't miss much.
See, I've been following this team since I was about 13 or 14, being from the north I guess Hockeys kinda in my blood. I played some deck hockey while I was up there, not very successfuly, but that I attribute to a crappy pick-up team rather than anything else. Hard to get team chemistry when you realy don't know any of the other players....and they don't play defense for you so you just become a duck in a shooting gallery when in net. Still it was fun and I still have my gear from it in the storage shed...I guess someday I'm hoping the street freezes over and I can play....
None the less, the Bruins have been a team of ups and downs in my more than 20 years of following them. So many times they would go to the playoffs and so many times they would merely be swept under the rug of obscurity, seemingly denied another chance at getting their names enscribed on the Stanley Cup. I've touched it and had my picture taken with it, one of the most prestigious trophys in sports history dating back nearly a hundred years. And yes...ALL the names of the winning teams are still on it ...that's why it's so big now. But I guess that touching it is more than most of the Boston players will ever do.
Ray Bourque, one of the longest running players in the history of the sport played for Boston for over 20 years, Unheard of in sporting circles. He refused to be traded as much as the management wasn't going to trade him. He was a born and bred Bruin, and wouldn't have it any other way. After seeing opportunity after opportunity pass him by, Ray finaly succumbed to wanting to have his name on the cup before he retired, only fitting since he was also a multiple record holder, and traded to the Collorado Avalanche, where after two years of playing with them his dream came true.
After only two years playing with them. Do you know when the last time Boston won the Stanely Cup was?
Longer than I've been alive.
1972.
Almost fourty years later I see Boston pissing away yet another chance after sweeping the Canadians in a four game streak....now losing to a southern based team where they don't even have ice most of the year.
It's now 2-1 in the series , not in Bostons favor.
And frankly I'm tired of being loyal....I'm frustrated at my team losing year after year only to get excited about them doing well the next year.
And having my hopes crushed again and again.
I don't know if I'm going to watch game 4. I'm tired of losing.
Resistance...ah, who am I kidding....

Not a lot to say today. Which is okay, since Co-Writer's covered it. Ouch.
